Middlesbrough Council s executive gave the green light for the hotel in December saying that the development could unlock plans for a multi-million-pound leisure and casino complex tube map in Middlesbrough.

Speaking at December s meeting of the executive, Mayor Ray Mallon said: Too many people are visiting Middlesbrough for one reason or another, work or leisure, and they are not staying in Middlesbrough.
