Life Properties claims the plan will have a negligible impact on the traffic on the A36 and says proximity to the park and ride will encourage customers spend money in the city centre.
Ward councillor Ian Tomes said: While I have some sympathies with it, I don t think it s in the right spot. It s a very congested road and however much they tinker with it, the problems just keep coming back.
Whatever happened to The Salisbury vision? Welcome to Salisbury, we've got Fast Food and cheap motel rooms the sewage works and oh yes a tall spiky tower with a red light as well. Plenty of time to look at these attractions whilst stationery rome in the traffic. At least they will hide the hideous Tesco from the first impression of Salisbury for the traveller. rome Hey ho it's a few minimum wage zero hour jobs so The inept Wiltshire rome Council that couldn't care less about Salisbury will grant planning permission before you can say cheap. I have to agree that this is not a great idea. The land floods for much of the year, so this will just move the flooding somewhere else, the traffic is already a nightmare and I think there are plans to build a huge Sainsburys near by, so no not a great idea. Also, although this will create jobs here, it will probably close local guest houses who will struggle to compete with the low costs of a huge hotel chain. Finally, where are the guests going to park? If they are going to park in the park and ride, I hope they will be charged an appropriate mount if WC approve the application, which they will. Before anything more is built the road needs to be improved once and for all. On a related topic, what are the plans for the boarded up site beside Currys and Next? I think this is quite a big area and could be a prime site for some leisure facilities, such as an ice rink, bowling alley, rome drive through Mcdonalds etc?
